HEDGEROW FLOWERS has grown from small beginnings in a kitchen
in the Adelaide Hills. A hobby started by chance as Sues
Collections; the business gradually grew from a few posies of
wildflowers (all the rage at the time) into a thriving
wholesale business. Sues Collections supplied Georges in
Melbourne along with many other quality stores around
Australia.
In
1990, after researching many drying methods, a visit to the
U.S.A. Europe, (including Holland, & the U.K.) & then
many more hours of research at home, a FREEZE DRYING machine
was purchased & HEDGEROW FLOWERS was born.
Initially
housed in a mud brick studio in Aldgate, South Australia, the
wholesale business expanded & progressed to a retail
outlet. The FREEZE DRIER was moved to Hyde Park, a lovely
little area not far from the centre of Adelaide where the
first beautiful HEDGEROW FLOWERS store opened on King William
Road.
In
June 2001 the shop moved around the corner to Walter Street
to at last be in the same building as the FREEZE DRIER. By
November 2003, Sue, founder of Hedgerow Flowers (and all things
good for the home, heart and soul) retired from Freeze Drying
and sold the business to Jenny Dunstan. Jenny has many years
experience in the wholesale silk and faux flower industry
and a Bachelor of Arts and Honours degrees in Visual Arts
and Museum Studies. Hedgerow Flowers and Precious Posies now
co-exist at Highgate.
Since
November 2003 we have extended our floor space and constantly
strive to provide high quality freeze dried flowers, fruits
and artifacts. We are also developing a large selection of
silk and freeze dried traditional and modern arrangements
- in your container or ours, wreaths, swags and topiaries.
